Serena Williams teases return to competitive tennis, says Tom Brady ‘started a really cool trend’ and ‘I am sorry I took your picture’
Serena Williams has told Tom Brady he started what he hopes will be a new trend, adding that he is sorry he took his picture.
The tennis star, 24, said she is on the comeback trail after losing a Wimbledon final in July.
Williams, who was in New York for a charity event for New York-based Child Youth Foundation of America, told the Boston Globe: “I don’t want to be sitting here talking about how great my game is and if I can break through – I did not break through.
“What I want to be talking about is that I lost the Wimbledon final last year and I was a little discouraged. I took a picture of myself looking at the crowd and sending it to Tom Brady, who was my agent.
“He was like, ‘Hey, I hope you don’t mind me sending it to you … that’s what I think about.’ And then he was like, ‘Hey, you know Serena, I think you should do the same thing.’
“And I was like, ‘Tom Brady, huh? What are you, my manager?’ And he was like, ‘Well, I have an idea.’ And he said, ‘I am the only owner of a golf course and the only father in the world, and instead of getting together with us, we should get together and talk golf.’ And I was like, ‘Great. I’ll do that.’
“Last fall I lost a final and that made me a little more anxious about the future. And then I went to the New York Open and lost in the third round.
